QUICKSILVER DINNER CRUISIN

This past week, we had some family visiting us from Portland. Normally, when this particular family visits us, it’s always for a funeral or for some unfortunate situation. Luckily for us all, all is well in the neighborhood and she’s coming for some much needed R & R and to introduce us to her new squeeze John.

They had planned a bunch of tours on their own but wanted to include us in one of them, this time it was a dinner cruise. It’s been a long time since Anabelle and I went on a dinner cruise. I really enjoy them because you’re in a somewhat intimate setting surround by the sounds and the smell of the Pacific. I also enjoy them because like all activities, it’s nice to be reminded why people spend their hard earned money to come to the place a lot of us take for granted. Initially, I wasn’t going to go. Ideally, I’d just want to stay home and hang out or hit the gym, but I thought why not. I had asked our concierge if it was possible to add Anabelle and me onto the reservation if there was still room. We had a stroke of luck when not only were we able to be added onto the boat, but we both got to go for free. Aah, the perks of working at a hotel.

We were booked on the Boss Frog’s QuickSilver. It was a double decker boat that was really spacious and would comfortably fit up to 66 passengers. Upon arrival we were greeted by the 6 man crew and treated to a party platter of fruits, vegetables, and breads. Our party of 8 had the upstairs corner blocked off for us. I thought we had the best seats in the house considering we were able to open and close the windows depending on the wind and the spray of the ocean and because we weren’t bumping knees with anyone other than ourselves. As the boat departed, we all got to know John a bit better and learn how good of a dude he is. In between conversations, we all took in the Maui sun and scenery for all its beauty. Everyone started breaking out their cameras and we all took numerous pictures of each other like we’ve never done before (we’re a family of semi-dorks). And unlike the other dinner cruise Anabelle and I went on, the service of the food was spot on. We were all ushered table by table downstairs to enjoy the QuickSilver feast. We dined on rolls with butter, salads, stir fried vegetables, teriyaki chicken, rosemary potatoes, and prime rib, along with a few other entrees I can’t remember. We also got to have this chocolate cake which I surprisingly liked (I hate cake). It seemed like all the guests were happily satisfied with the food because everyone kept going back downstairs for more. I also took notice and appreciated that the crew didn’t put the food away as soon as everyone was served; they kept the food out for everyone to enjoy.

After we enjoyed the awesome spread of food, the boat cruised around as the sun got into perfect position for everyone to witness one of Maui’s greatest assets, the sunset. As the sun was setting, everyone was vying for their perfect picture. As I said, it’s really nice to see these moments where visitors act like kids in a candy store. It’s a nice reminder knowing why we do what we do, at least for me in my profession.

ANOTHER MAUI SUNSET

As the evening winded down, the boat headed inward towards the harbor. We were a bit away so it was going to take a while. This is where the ocean started to rumble. The boat was rocking up and down scaring a lot of people. A lot of them starting coming into the cabin to get away from the wind and the spray. Well, everyone except John and Ray. =) We all started to get to know each other which luckily made the ride back seem shorter. We got to know several couples and families from Seattle, California, and Arizona. Everyone was nice as they tried to pick our brains on what the “locals” do. Before we knew it, the Captain announced over the PA that we were now docking and thanked us for coming aboard.

MY & MY <3

We all departed the boat with fond memories of a great trip with new family and new friends. Other than a bit of swell towards the end, the boat ride was near picture perfect. I’ll definitely be recommending this boat to our visitors and I’m sure they’ll enjoy it as much as we did. I hope Kelly and John, along with more of our family can enjoy such a great trip in the years to come. Thank you QuickSilver crew.
