SPUR OF THE MOMENT

The second best thing to a vacation is the weekend, unless you work, of course. Since adopting our dog Chewy, we’ve had few opportunities to go out and gallivant like we used to. Now that we’re parents, we have to limit our outings to places that are dog friendly. On Sunday, 2 of my cousins who play softball had a game and spent most of the day at the park. They came to my house to pick up Chewy for my niece who’s in love with her, and that freed the day up for us. Anabelle and I decided to go out and capitalize on this now rare occasion.

We came up with a game plan for the day. We first decided that lunch was a must and hit up Genki Sushi. Unfortunately they don't have the greatest sushi but everywhere else at the mall that day was packed and had a long wait list; so sushi it was. Being that we were on a time crunch, lunch was literally a hit and run. Anabelle has always been in love with Unagi (Eel) and savored every bite from every plate. I however, don’t have quite a courageous appetite and opted for some Spam sushi. We were there for no more than 20 minutes and managed to place an order and fill ourselves up.

Within minutes of paying the bill, we were on the other side of the courtyard at the theater to watch Sanctum 3D. Like most people, we mainly watched the movie because it was produced by director/producer juggernaut James Cameron. We rushed lunch so we didn’t get the dreaded bottom of the barrel seats. To our delight, there were no more than 15 people in the seats. We took our usual spots, middle seats in the middle row. Without this becoming a movie review all I’ll say is that, “It was a nail biting thriller from beginning to end and we weren’t disappointed one bit.”

I was told that my cousin’s softball game was at 4 so we decided to meet up with Chewy and everyone else and catch the ending of it. From the movie, we headed over to Keopuolani Park, which is where I crossed off #89 from my Bucket List (unnecessary plug). It was the 8th inning and it flew by just as quickly as the 9th. Luckily, my cousin’s team rallied back to win the game 7-5. After gathering up our belongings, we headed towards the playground where my niece had a ball. In a way, it was nostalgic for us to swing on a swing, slide down the slide, and become a kid again. Anabelle and I were having just as much fun as the children was, it was great. There were a few parents around that were laughing at how much fun we were having, yet they knew that they really wanted to join in. We stayed there, got worked up and played for about an hour before calling it a day.

At the end of the day, we were all totally beat. It was such a great day for Anabelle and I to get our personal time yet still spend time with Chewy. It’s a day I hope we can have more of. Needless to say, we all slept very well that night.
