VALENTINE'S DAY

I love telling Anabelle I love her. There’s no one more important to me than her and Damien. They’re my life and my love and there is nothing that I do in my life without considering them.

This year, Anabelle and I wanted to steer clear of the clichéd Valentine’s evening; the overpriced flowers ($5 roses on the 13th and $25 on the 14th), the smaller portioned food that costs half the price (plus an overly crowded restaurant) and the (semi corny) Every Kiss Begins with KAY half heart jewelry thing-a-ma-jigs. We wanted to keep everything as simple as possible. We chose to have dinner at an awesome burger joint in Kihei called Peggy Sue’s. Though we don’t eat there as much as we’d like to, it’s a spot that has so much character. It has that 50’s / 60’s doo-wop feel. Their burgers are definite button busters but worth every calorie. Anabelle chose to eat the “Great Balls of Fire” or a jalapeno burger.  since she knows that I don’t like spicy food and odds are I won’t touch it. I chose to go with the “Bee Bop a Lula” which is a ½ lb. bacon cheeseburger topped with 5 fat slices of avocado. Boy oh boy did those hit the spot. Also at Peggy Sue’s, each table has its own baby jukebox which we took full advantage of. They played songs from the 50’s, which of course we’ve only identified with 3 of them. Anabelle and I tried to make a 2 bit music video but we were unsuccessful since the wait staff would have full view of us making asses of ourselves. But we enjoyed our time there. From there, we spent the rest of the night together and watched some TV before I headed home.

Anabelle and I try to have date night every so often and try new things to keep it fresh. Considering we’ve rarely done the romantic VALENTINE’S evening out, this was something that was bound to happen. And tonight, it did. I feel that we’ll be changing our “NO GOING OUT ON VALENTINE’S DAY” clause because we had way too much fun; especially with it being on a budget. We didn’t need the fine dining dinners, the flowers, and the champagne or jewelry, we just needed each other. And if the world’s going to celebrate, so will we.
